New 2026 Rules for Your Helper, Explained

Payday in Gulf homes is moving online. Here is what is changing, in plain words, and a simple way to never miss the date.

It is the last evening of the month. Dinner is done, the children are finally asleep, and you remember, with a small jolt, that the salary transfer is still sitting in your banking app, unsent.

For years, an evening like that cost nothing more than an apology the next morning. Across the Gulf, that is changing. Paying the household team is moving onto official digital channels, with dates that carry real weight.

What is changing, in plain words

Saudi Arabia. Since the start of 2026, every household is expected to pay its helper's salary electronically through Musaned, the government's online system for household staff, into a bank account or digital wallet. It was rolled out in stages from 2024 and now covers homes with even one team member. Salaries are due at the end of each Hijri month, as set out in the contract, unless both sides agree otherwise in writing.

Also in Saudi Arabia. The ministry's guide for household staff says employers may not charge their team for recruitment, work permits or transfers, and that every team member gets a weekly rest day and at least eight hours of rest in a row each day.

The UAE. A new rule from June 2026 tightened payday deadlines for registered companies, including the recruitment centres many families hire through.

This is a plain summary, not legal advice. Rules get updated, so check Musaned or the UAE Ministry of Human Resources directly for what applies to your home.

What this means at home

Most families who pay late are not careless. They are busy, and payday lives in one person's memory, next to school fees, the car service and passport renewals. A few habits help.

Know which calendar your contract follows. In Saudi Arabia salaries follow the Hijri month, which moves about eleven days earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar. A "same date as always" habit slowly becomes a late one.

Set the reminder a few days early. Transfers can take time, and the end of the month often lands on a weekend or a holiday.

Agree the weekly day off out loud, then write it down. Which day, what time it starts, whether it shifts during Ramadan. Clarity protects both sides.

Keep every date that matters in one place. Payday, the day off, the contract end, passport and residency renewals.

This is the kind of thing Paz is for. You add payday and the day off once in the app, and Paz reminds you before each one is due. Document expiry dates live in the same place, so renewals are planned rather than rushed.

Payday is a small date with a big meaning for the person waiting on it. It deserves better than memory.
